RP 101
An RP guide for vets and newbies alike
(This guide was created by Luca, so it has an overabundance of happy faces. Enjoy.)

Who Should Use This Guide?

This guide was made for all RP'ers. Whether you're a beginner, a veteran or somewhere in between, I strongly urge you to read this guide, because no matter what you think about your posts, there will always be something you can improve on. After all, nothing's perfect, right?

The Basics

RP is a series of posts in which you and other members act as either a character you have created or as a pre-existing character. You and other members of the RP take it in turns to post according to the main idea of the RP thread.

When Posting

The preferred mode of RP is third person point of view in past tense and shall be the mode we will be using on this forum. Also, proper spelling, grammar and punctuation is expected to the best of your ability. Mistakes here and there are over looked as nobody is perfect, however if u ar cort typing like dis, u wil b warnd. A maximum of two written warnings will be given to you. If you still continue to make illiterate posts, you will be PM'ed a final warning. If the message /still/ didn't get across, your last offending post will be deleted.

Keep in mind that the people RP'ing with you do not see things the way you do, and nor will they visualise scenes the way you do. As a result of this, I cannot stress enough the importance of detail. In order to avoid misunderstandings between RP'ers, I suggest you type out your posts in a descriptive manner. However, should a misunderstanding occur, simply post your concern in double brackets (These double brackets signify you being Out Of Character (OOC) and look like this '((blah blah blah blah))') You are NOT to continue with the RP until the matter is solved, otherwise it's just plain rude.

Example Post - Taken from Kaname's audition
Kaname's heart felt as though it was about to beat right out of his chest. He raced down the dimly lit halls of the headmaster's home as fast as his legs could carry him. He could smell it... that sweet aroma... the scent that had haunted his every waking moment since that white winter night.

"Damn... how could this happen right under my nose?!" Kaname breathed a wordless sigh as he doubled his pace, a pace that strained even his vampiric physique. "Kiryu Zero... if you have harmed her..."

His precious person... his Yuki... had been bitten by another.

That is the general length of an average post. I am not asking you to post volumes upon volumes, but at the very least, try to keep it at a minimum of two paragraphs please.

God Moding/Auto Hitting

The definition of God Moding is where a member takes control of another character and is most commonly seen in RP battles. No matter how small or vague you think it is, simply don't do it. It's annoying as heck to deal with, trust me. To Auto Hit is to make another member's characters take a hit without offering them the chance to avoid the attack.

Example
Person 1: John jumped high into the air, using the downward momentum to kick Tom in the head.

Simple post, but you get the point, yes? Person 2 had NO chance to avoid the hit at all. Quite unfair. Quite cowardly. Quite frustrating.

RP Battles

RP Battles are great fun, however, taking things too far in a battle just isn't. Unless you have permission from the owner of a character, you CANNOT kill anybody's character. Discussions about character deaths may be held between yourselves via PM or IM, otherwise I will suspend you from RP'ing for a short period of time. Don't whine to me about no knowing because this post is pinned. Ignorance is not an excuse.

Imagination Rocks

LET YOUR IMAGINATION SOAR. :D

That is all. I hope this guide helped in one fashion or another, and if you have something you wish to add, merely post it and I will merge your post into mine. Credit will of course be given. ^_^

Ready To RP?

Once your character/s has been approved, you're free to either start your own thread OR post in an already existing RP thread. It's all entirely up to you. If you like the idea of an existing thread, just join in. If you have your own ideas for your character or a general plot, type away. Imagination knows no boundaries after all. =3
